Good & Evil, A Devil and The Power of Love
Why did the crucified one speak so highly of love?
Most stories that pique the interest of humans beings seem to include the dichotomy of good and evil, opposed of course, often battling for control; sometimes of material goods and other times of the soul of our hero or heroine. So universal is the theme that it pervades all societies and cultures and throughout all time and known history of mankind. Statistically, just this pervasiveness would be scientific proof enough of this existence of “good” and its partner “evil.” The convenience of vilifying what we wish to overcome or destroy, and the sanctifying of those and things we like, perhaps has prevented us from really looking into the real truth of “good and evil.”
The anthropologist Carlos Casteñeda reveals in his book, The Active Side Of Infinity, the intriguing fact, long known to the pre-hispanic civilizations of the Americas, of the existence of a predatory species of inorganic beings, from the universe at large, who prey upon humans- implanting their “mind” into ours. These predators apparently feed off of the energy of our emotional outbursts, thusly using humans as food source. “In the same way that we keep chickens for food, so does the predator keep us,” according to Don Juan Matus, Yaqui Indian Shaman. Are our wars and constant strife simply due to this predator and the human state of bondage from it?
I was driving through Oklahoma at night recently and to stay awake was listening to “God radio” as some seem to like to call it. After an hour of “Let The Bible Speak For Itself,” I was feeling a little sad because I had not heard the word “love” once or any reference to “loving your fellow man.” As I remember from my Sunday school days, to “love your fellow man” was the numero uno lesson of the crucified prophet Jesus. I just thought it should have been mentioned. And why do we say “The devil knows the scriptures best?”
I did an experiment to test the “power of love.” Every gas station/convenience store I went into on my long drive across this beautiful country of ours, I held in my heart an unconditional love for whomever clerk was working- this you can try for yourself- and it was incredible the response I found! Not only did I receive free cups of coffee but smiles, conversation and warmth! Hmm… The Power of Love is actually real. I remember my lessons of “love one another” and I remember thinking, “Oh yes that would be nice,” but not taking it seriously as a source of power for positive change in humanity.
Egypt and the assertion of Egyptian troops that they would not fire on their fellow Egyptians was a triumph of goodness, love and the peaceful “change of regime” was a hopeful sign of the evolution of the consciousness of humanity. You can kill a lot of people and destroy many buildings but you have won nothing until you win the hearts and minds of your enemy- after all, only then will they become your friend. Naturally, the less you kill and destroy, and the more you love, the easier it will be to make friends.
A planet of people who love one another would, of course, cooperate in solving problems and share equally resources and would then have lots of time for festivities and music and dance… Corruption is our common enemy, it has ruined communism, it has ruined capitalism, it has ruined religion, it has ruined government, it has ruined kings and queens and television too. Whatever systems we humans create seem to eventually fall to corruption. The power of love is our corruption cleanser and preventer. The power of love will eradicate the predator from our minds. Simple isn’t it?
Easter is such a wonderful time of year, full of rebirth and flowers. It is a good time to set our intent for the coming year and to remember the lessons of ones past. We should remember the champion of love and the great friend to humanity- the arisen one… As Jesus died, nailed to a cross, his last words, “Forgive them, for they know not what they have done.”
