Universal Serpent: Afro-Haitian Dance

Aya Shabu shares her love of and connection to Haiti with Yanvalou, an undulating serpentine dance performed in honor of vodun spirits Damballah and Agwe. Dancers of all abilities are invited to relax into embodied prayer through the watery movements of the snake. If possible, please wear loose, flowing white or light clothing.

Join us in sharing heart-rhythms, breath and movement. Together we will listen louder and connect as ONE in the healing flow of community. With guidance from inspirational teacher Aubrey Griffith-Zill (OO-SEE-AHH & Living Arts Collective), we will find the body’s pulse through world movements to live music, featuring the rhythms of Beats in the Bones, an all-female performance troupe bringing soul-stirring word and cracking rhythms to let the light in.
