A special thanks to all of the musicians that took the time to teach and share with folks from the Front Porch Stage this past Fall! Keep an eye out for an updated schedule for Spring ’19!
All Music Workshops take place on the Front Porch Stage, located at the farm house. Enjoy intimate music workshops given by artists you will see throughout the weekend on much larger stages.
Dance Workshops are held nearby in the Dance Tent.

Music, Meditation, and Improv Workshop
In this engaging and interactive workshop, we will learn to be mindful of the tonal qualities of the sounds we make, feel the vibrations in our body, and notice our body as it plays the instrument… a powerful tool for both practicing and relaxing, sometimes even both! We’ll talk about the many ways we can seed ourselves into an improv session and the benefits of letting go of expectations while running with our curiosity. Front Porch, Friday, 12:00 p.m.
Songwriting Workshop with Ryan Montbleau
With over a decade’s worth of experience as a professional musician, prolific New England-based songwriter Ryan Montbleau has a myriad of knowledge to impart on young or burgeoning artists. Join us for an intimate Front Porch session in which Ryan outlines his songwriting process and provides tips and tricks for how to improve upon your own skills. Front Porch, Friday 2:00 p.m.
Exploring Balkan Music with Black Sea Beat Society
Asheville’s Black Sea Beat Society joins us on Friday evening to bring their Balkan/Turkish/Middle Eastern dance party to Shakori Hills for the first time. After dancing your night away to these ornately arranged jams, join us on the Front Porch stage for a deep dive into the intricate rhythms and melodies that make up the foundation of Balkan music. Front Porch, Saturday 12:00 p.m.
Exploration of Afrobeat with Kaleta & Super Yamba Band
When it comes to the world of Afrobeat, it’s hard to think of someone with more breadth of experience than Kaleta has. Having cut his teeth as a touring guitarist for legendary acts like King Sunny Ade and Fela Kuti, who better to impart wisdom on the complex foundations of the Afrobeat sound than Kaleta and the afro-funksters in Super Yamba Band?! Front Porch, Saturday, 4:00 p.m.
Vocalization Workshop with Lipbone Redding
This workshop is for attendees who are already exploring the arts or would like to gain better knowledge and control of the voice. This workshop is based on techniques that give musicians, actors and public speakers the tools to optimize the voice. Students explore their own vocal instruments through a series of relaxation exercises and vocal games. Front Porch, Sunday 12:00 p.m.
Masterclass with Consider the Source
NYC-based trio Consider the Source seem to defy all parameters of a single genre, landing somewhere between psych rock soundscapes with a Middle Eastern focus. Join the band on the Front Porch for one of their masterclass sessions, where you will focus on finding your own voice, using eastern rhythms in a western context, using eastern ornamentation, maintaining effec-tive practice habits, lifestyle of a touring musician, group demonstrations through original song catalogue and an interactive Q+A section. Front Porch, Sunday 2:00 p.m.
