Show Shakori Some Love

The Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival of Music & Dance is a nonprofit festival which benefits the Shakori Hills Community Arts Center (SHCAC).

The spring and fall GrassRoots Festivals are easily the largest drivers of revenue for SHCAC with the spring bringing in roughly double the amount of benefit to the center.

Due to the cancellation of the Spring 2020 festival the programs and festival are in jeopardy. We need your support to help keep them going.

The SHCAC hosts music workshops and classes throughout the year as well as programs in schools. Programs like the Junior Appalachian Musicians, Roots in the Schools, Hoppin’ John, and the GrassRoots Festival will be impacted by the quarantine associated with the coronavirus.

SHCAC is a nonprofit in good standing with the Secretary of State of NC and enjoys a Gold rating from Guidestar, the world’s largest source of nonprofit information, for it’s transparency.

The SHCAC brings so much joy to the faces of children and adults alike, and we want it to continue to thrive. Most of the classes offered by SHCAC are low-cost and no-cost programs for children in rural areas of the Piedmont of North Carolina.

Please help us continue the mission of SHCAC to provide culturally significant arts, music and sustainability education and outreach to our local community and schools, while preserving the greenspace of the 72-acre Chatham County homestead.

Even if you can only give a little bit, it will go a long way.

Below are some ways you can support the Shakori Hills Community Arts Center, the presenting organization of the Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival of Music & Dance:

1) You can donate via PayPal using this link.

2) Set SHCAC as your preferred nonprofit on smile.amazon.com and remember to log-in via that link when you do all your Amazon shopping.

This website works the same as Amazon and has all the same products as Amazon, however, you begin at smile.amazon.com and Amazon donates 0.5% of your purchase to Shakori Hills on eligible products.

      Amazon Smile Steps:

  1. Go to https://smile.amazon.com
  2. Log in
  3. Type in your Charity/ Organization – Shakori Hills Community Arts Center
  4. Start Shopping!

3) The third way you can help is by spreading the word on social media, for instance:

  1. Sharing our blog posts
  2. Subscribe to the Shakori Sessions Podcast
  3. Share photos and videos of your time at Shakori Hills and tag us on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter
  4. Subscribe to the Shakori Hills YouTube Channel and send us your old video links so we can add to our Shakori Hills playlist.

With people working remotely and social distancing more than ever before, it is important to stay together as a community. We can help build the Shakori Hills online community, ensure the future of the Shakori Hills Community Arts Center, and spread the Shakori Love!

How to Help Our Festival Family

The Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival of Music & Dance would be nothing without its bands and arts and craft persons.

Many of you have asked about how to help support these individuals during this difficult time.

Bands

Many of the musicians who were slated to play during Spring 2020 have their own websites featuring merchandise and other items for sale.

Visit our Performers Page for links to all the Spring 2020 bands.

As you know, we love to feature North Carolina music on the stages at Shakori Hills. Keep the money local when you support these indie bands on Bandcamp, which is similar to Spotify but all the money goes directly to supporting the artist.

We also have an official Shakori Hills Spotify Playlist for the Spring 2020 lineup that you can enjoy from home.

JamBase has launched a calendar of livestreams for everyone to watch while at home. Anyone can add to this community calendar, so if you know of an artist with a livestream, add it and share it.

Arts and Crafts Vendors

Shakori wouldn’t be the same without unique arts and crafts vendors. Here is a list of the Arts and Craft Vendors who were going to be at the Spring 2020 festival. We are sure your support would mean a great deal to these small businesses in this difficult time.

Consider buying a piece and sending it to a loved one or friend to share a smile or just a simple “thinking of you.”

COVID-19 Letter to Our Festival Family

March 10, 2020 by David Dean 2 Comments

Dear Friends,

We are reaching out to assure you we are monitoring the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) situation in North Carolina. Like many others, we are taking guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization, the State of North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, and other state and local resources. The health and safety of our festival attendees, volunteers, performers, and staff has always, and will continue to be, our highest priority.

We will be working with the Chatham County Health Department and other local and statewide officials to make decisions that are in the best interest of our festival family. We encourage you to follow CDC cleaning and disinfection guidelines which you can find by clicking this link.

At this time we expect the 18th Annual Spring Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival of Music & Dance to go on as planned May 7 – 10, 2020.

We understand there is concern around ticket purchases. Our ticket policy, located on the Tickets page of the festival website, states all sales are final. However, in the event of cancellation, any and all Spring 2020 tickets will be honored at your choice of the Fall 2020 or Spring 2021 festival.

For the fastest response, festival questions can be sent to us at shakorihills@grassrootsfest.org.

Thank you for your patience and continuing support as we monitor the outbreak. Please subscribe to our enewsletter, follow us on social media, and bookmark our blog to stay up-to-date.

Sincerely-

Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival Staff
