Check in when you arrive, and please do not arrive for Early Set Up Check In prior to Ticket Booth opening hour.
Early Vehicle or RV Set Up is $20 per day and Early Tent Set Up is $10 per day.
If you plan to set up early, you must pay your fee and pick up your festival camping passes and early set up sticker upon entry to the grounds. Do not set up without receiving an Early Set Up pass! You may set up all of your camping gear or leave a vehicle, but you cannot rope off extra space to be used later.
Camp fires
Personal campfires at campsites are usually allowed, but a final decision based on guidance from the North Carolina Forest Service and Fire Inspector is announced prior to the start of the festival. Please see the ticket booth for this year’s campfire notice. If the weather has been very dry, we will not allow fires.
If personal campfires at campsites are allowed during the festival, they must follow the guidance below:
Planned fire locations should be clear and free of flammable materials (dried grass, brush, dead wood, etc) for a distance of 15 feet (5 paces). North Carolina fire code requires a 15 foot clearance between recreational fires and all structures and flammable material (this includes tents and buildings).
NC Fire Code also requires that recreational fires must be attended at all times. If no one is attending a fire, move all smoldering pieces to the middle to burn down to embers and cover the embers with ashes or sand. It is not necessary to pour water on your fire to put it out; that actually creates more smoke.
NC Fire Code also states that charcoal fires and open flame cooking devices may not be used within 10 feet of combustible structures, materials or tents. Open flame cooking devices (grills, etc) should be less than 2 feet in diameter or 3 square feet in area.
*Please note that floating lanterns are not allowed.
Camping Guidelines
Shakori Hills is a community, and throughout 19 years of GrassRoots Festivals our community consistently takes care of each other. Whenever at Shakori Hills, we kindly ask that all attendees be respectful of your camping neighbors and, most importantly, the land. Please leave your campsite cleaner than you found it, and take home everything that you brought in.
Thank you for joining our community and observing the following guidelines below so that all can safely enjoy the Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival experience:
Trash and recycling bags are offered at the Ticket Booth upon arrival. Please bag up all of your trash and recycling separately, and leave at the closest trash area prior to your departure for pickup by our CRT Staff.
Propane canisters brought to the site must leave with the owners. They do not go in the trash or recycling.
No gas-powered Generators (unless with a medical reason, in which case you must be approved by the festival and camp in the front lot). To apply for gas powered generator approval, please submit this form here.
No idling vehicles.
Camping ends on Monday after the festival, and we kindly ask that all campers safely depart from their cleaned sites by the end of the day.
Vehicle and RV camping areas are limited, please park closely and considerately.
Vehicle, RV and Tent Camping is allowed in designated areas only. There are marked nature preserve areas on-site, and we thank you for not camping in those areas.
Vehicle and RV campers must display a vehicle camping pass on the upper driver’s side windshield. On an RV/camper without windshield: on the door of the RV/camper. The sticker must be on the vehicle that is camping. If you wish to come in and out during the festival with a vehicle that you are towing your camper with you must purchase a 4-day parking pass and park in the lot near the festival entrance.
Towing is enforced in the marked NO PARKING zones. Vehicles parked in no parking zones will be towed by a professional towing service to a parking area on-site.
For safety, comfort and the environment please do not drive around the festival grounds. If you have a vehicle camping pass and need to leave the festival grounds we request that you do so between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m.
No driving in camp sites after dark! If you arrive after dark, and wish to vehicle camp, you must camp in the vehicle camping section of the main parking lot.
